Brookdale Road Reserve, Point Cook
A first for Point Cook
Its huge commitment to the Bensonhurst Parade Reserve in Point Cook notwithstanding, Wyndham City Council had another ace up its sleeve – the development of a sister site 5 kilometres away at Brookdale Road Reserve.
The council’s vision for Brookdale Road Reserve? To “create a space where people can engage in healthy activity and come together as a community”. Along with a multi-use sporting field for cricket and soccer, the reserve would feature Point Cook’s first baseball and softball fields, and beautifully designed play and fitness areas for people of all ages to enjoy.

Two for one
The tender for Brookdale Road Reserve was conducted at the same time as the tender for nearby Bensonhurst Parade Reserve. Joslyn Group was awarded the job based on the same criteria: our experience and expert capabilities; financial stability and business size; and the fact we own our own machinery.
This, coupled with our ability to closely oversee every detail of the project, gave Wyndham City Council the confidence to hand over the construction and development of this greenfield site to Joslyn Group.
Implementing sustainable practices
Minimising our environmental impact is becoming increasingly important in the projects we deliver for our clients – and Brookdale Road Reserve is just one great example of our sustainable practices.
Due to Point Cook’s proximity to the bay, we sought to minimise the environmental impact on our waterways. The new 50-space car park is surrounded by rain gardens, where rainwater run-off filters through layers of sand-based material to remove impurities and pollutants, before entering the stormwater system and eventually our ocean. Recycled water is used for irrigation and, as with Bensonhurst Parade Reserve, we recycled and ameliorated the soil for use on landscaped areas.
The vast open spaces of the site had to be painstakingly prepared for the new baseball and softball fields, which saw us in trucking in materials – but only within certain hours to ensure we didn't disturb the two schools located on either side of the boundary. We installed high-ball catch fencing behind the baseball diamonds, as well as a batting cage and two synthetic running tracks around the perimeter of the baseball field. As the site is in the flight path for the nearby RAAF base, the cranes installing the solar-powered sports field lighting had to have their height restricted.
Once groundworks were complete, Brookdale Road Reserve was fully landscaped with plants and trees, complementing our more functional hardscaping.
A multigenerational space
With its specially designed sports fields, ninja warrior course, exercise equipment, rock-climbing wall, landscaped areas, and walking and jogging track, Brookdale Road Reserve is a premier space for the community to live happy, active lives. Residents are raving about it – and we’re pretty excited about how it turned out too.
